The woman had been known for decades only as the “Nation River Lady” after the remains were found on May 3, 1975, floating in the Nation River, a short distance from a highway bridge near Casselman, Ontario. Viau was convicted of second-degree murder last year, but her husband was acquitted. In February, Viau received a life sentence for the murders and her period of parole ineligibility was set at 12 years.TORONTO (AP) - A woman found dead in eastern Ontario 48 years ago has been identified as a Tennessee spa owner who disappeared on a trip to Montreal, and a Florida man who knew her has been charged in her murder, police said Wednesday. He testified that the Falduto brothers were added to the hit list sometime after he first saw it. The informant said he was shown the hit list after having been released from a federal penitentiary shortly after Giordano was killed. Sollecito is believed to have taken the helm of the organization after longtime leader Vito Rizzuto died of cancer at the end of 2013. The informant described Sollecito and Giordano as being the top two people in the hierarchy of the Montreal Mafia when they were killed. Early in 2016, the informant said, Scoppa and other leaders of a Calabrian clan within the Montreal Mafia sought to kill leaders of the Sicilian clan, or the Rizzuto organization. He said Sollecito’s name was on a “menu,” or a hit list, managed by Salvatore Scoppa throughout 2016. When he decided to work with the Sûreté du Québec, the informant told investigators that, after he killed Sollecito, he also killed the Falduto brothers. The couple were charged with the murders of Vincenzo and Giuseppe Falduto, two brothers killed on the couple’s farm during the summer of 2016. The informant also testified last year as a prosecution witness in the trial of Marie-Josée Viau and Guy Dion, a married couple from St-Jude, a small rural town near St-Hyacinthe. The informant was the shooter in that murder, and he testified that Scarfo helped set it up. Rocco Sollecito was killed on May 27, 2016, at an intersection in Laval. Scarfo was alleged to have been the gunman in Giordano’s death. Civilian witnesses who testified at the start of the trial said Giordano’s girlfriend, who was in the driver’s seat, emerged from the vehicle covered in blood and screamed hysterically. He was shot five times in the head and neck while seated in the passenger seat of a vehicle parked in front of Carrefour Multisports, a sports centre off Highway 440 in Laval where Giordano worked out regularly. Lorenzo Giordano was killed on March 1, 2016. Prosecutor Marie-Christine Godbout told the judge she will check to see if any relatives of the two victims wish to make statements before Scarfo is sentenced. Pennou said he will hear sentencing arguments on the conspiracy charges at a later date. With the first-degree murder verdicts, Scarfo automatically received a life sentence with a period of parole ineligibility fixed at 25 years. He eventually settled down and testified at length, despite several outbursts throughout. It ain’t happening,” the informant said back in February while complaining that his contract with the Sûreté du Québec was not being respected.
